News: 2 days agoCoach Mike Tomlin said Thursday that Russell Wilson will start Saturday's preseason game against the Bills, leaving Fields in position to enter the contest second, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.

Spin: Tomlin said he expects Pittsburgh's starters to play roughly four series Saturday, per Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com, which could leave Fields to work with the second-team offense. Though Wilson will start in his preseason debut and still seems to be atop the quarterback depth chart, Fields remains part of an ongoing competition under center. Pryor reports that Fields opened Thursday's practice with the first-team offense. After fumbling twice versus the Texans last week, it will benefit Fields if he's able to play mistake-free football against Buffalo on Saturday.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: After spending his first three seasons with Chicago, Fields was traded to Pittsburgh, where he will compete with Russell Wilson for the starting job. Fields, who finished as QB7 in 2022, posted a career high in passing yards last season, but his rushing totals declined, as he dropped from 7.1 yards per carry to 5.3. Fields possesses the high-level arm talent to attack vertically and the physical tools to create big plays as a runner, which give him breakout-game potential. He's worth drafting only if he wins the starting job, though.
