News: 16 hours agoCoach Sean Payton said Friday that Nix will start Sunday's preseason game against the Packers, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.

Spin: Payton's comments confirm the plan he proposed ahead of Denver's preseason opener last week, which Jarrett Stidham started. Nix, who completed 15 of 21 passes for 125 yards and one touchdown while rushing three times for 17 yards versus the Colts last week, will work with the first-team offense against Green Bay on Sunday. Stidham will then enter the contest, followed by Zach Wilson.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Selected 12th overall by the Broncos, Nix stands a good chance at capturing the starting role after coach Sean Payton raved about the rookie's potential. Nix is an extensively experienced college quarterback, having started 61 games and attempted 1,936 passes across three seasons at Auburn and two at Oregon. He finished with a stellar 2023, in which he completed an FBS record 77.4% of his pass attempts with 45 touchdowns compared to three interceptions. Though that came in an exceedingly pass-friendly offense, his ability to make quick reads and sharp throws should serve him well as he adapts to NFL play. Nix should be drafted only in superflex formats.
